Supporters raise over 12k running 50 Miles in August

16 September, 2021

In August, Victim Support Scotland hosted a virtual fundraising campaign via Facebook – “Run 50 Miles in August”. We invited supporters to run or walk 50 miles while gaining sponsorship for their efforts.

We are so thankful to the 200 people who took part in our first Facebook challenge.  Supporters from across Scotland put their best foot forward for VSS gaining over 10,000 miles between them and raising over £12,000.

VSS CEO, Kate Wallace, achieved over 80 miles and is continuing her running to take part in the Moira Run. VSS Head of Comms, Mike Findlay participated which included taking part in a half marathon in London as part of his challenge.  In addition to Kate and Mike, a team of VSS staff members were involved in the challenge too.

Runners (or walkers) connected and shared their miles via a private Facebook group, supporting each other throughout with encouragement to stay motivated. Many participants were engaging with VSS for the very first time, although some people have had the challenge of being impacted by crime in the past, and wanted to do something to help others. We are extremely grateful to each and everyone who took part.

The challenge was a great way of getting people out in the late Summer sunshine and getting active in order to support and raise awareness of the work we do across Scotland, to support anyone affected by any crime.

The event was so successful and we received great feedback that we are now running our new challenge – Jog 40 Miles in September. Click on the group if you are interested in getting involved.
