As part of Volunteers' Week, we are getting to know some of our volunteers from across Scotland.
Pierluisa is a volunteer in our Hamilton team, and she supports people who are attending court as a witness. We spoke to her to find out more about her volunteering journey.
What do you get out of volunteering with VSS?
"I get to develop invaluable skills, such as crisis communication and a deeper understanding of the Scottish criminal justice system.
"Additionally, being part of a compassionate and dedicated team at the Hamilton court makes me feel connected to a meaningful community."
What are the things you like about volunteering?
"What I like most is the direct interaction with people.
"I appreciate the moments when you can visibly see a victim or witness relax just because you explained the court procedures or offered them a quiet space to breathe."
What is your motivation for volunteering?
"My main motivation is to ensure that no one has to face the daunting court system alone.
"Going to court can be re-traumatising for victims, and I want to be that steady, non-judgmental presence that helps them find their voice and feel safe."
