Families of knife crime victims speak out to call for change
Three people who have lost a family member to knife crime have shared their stories and made a call for change in how knife crime is dealt with in Scotland.
We are calling on MSPs to vote to ensure that the not proven verdict is abolished as part of the Victims, Witnesses, and Justice Reform Bill
There are so many reasons why not proven needs to be abolished. For one, there is no official or legal definition of not proven – it is confusing for victims, juries and the general public alike.
The most powerful advocates for abolishing this verdict are people who have been directly impacted, and VSS is dedicated to sharing their voices. Our thanks and gratitude go to Yvonne, Stewart and Ames for lending their voices to our campaign.
Due to sharing their voices, we believe this has the support of most MSPs to vote for not proven to be abolished. However, we cannot take this for granted and this is a final push to get this arcane verdict removed from Scotland’s criminal justice system.
