As a charity, we are always incredibly grateful when people get in touch to let us know they are fundraising for us. It is especially impressive when it involves a genuine challenge – like jumping out of a plane!

That is exactly what two members of the Mitchell family will be doing later this summer, when they take part in a skydive to raise funds for Victim Support Scotland.

Adele and Paul are bravely taking on this challenge in memory of their uncle and grandmother. They chose to raise funds for VSS after being supported by our Support for Families Bereaved by Crime team.

Adele explained the support they received:

“In June 2023, our uncle was killed in a back garden of a house just yards away from my granny’s and my mum’s homes. Victim Support Scotland were incredible, providing as much support as they could to the family during the grieving period.

“It took around eight weeks for our uncle to be returned home for us to have the funeral - this time felt like an eternity. Our granny then passed away on the one-year anniversary of our uncle’s death due to a broken heart. The court case for our uncle’s death didn't proceed until June/July 2025 and the VSS team at the court in Inverness were exceptional, accommodating 13 of us and ensuring we knew what to expect in the court room.

“This was also the same when it came to the sentencing in Glasgow, the team were amazing at ensuring we were safe and had our own space to allow the outcome to sink in, in our own time.

“I also received support for a separate case in 2024. My supporter Gary was amazing at keeping me updated with everything and ensuring that I was okay after I'd given my evidence.” 

Every donation, big or small, will help Victim Support Scotland continue providing vital support to people who really need it - and it will also help motivate us not to back out before jump day!

Adele summed up their challenge:

“It's coming up to our uncle’s three-year anniversary, and two years for our granny, so that's where the idea for a fundraising skydive came from, in their memory.”

“Neither of us can honestly say this feels like a good idea, but if our uncle and granny are watching, we're sure they'll be laughing at us the whole way down.

“Every donation, big or small, will help Victim Support Scotland continue providing vital support to people who really need it - and it will also help motivate us not to back out before jump day!

“Thank you so much for your support, encouragement, and for helping us survive this questionable decision!”

The pair will be taking on the challenge later this summer, and every penny donated will help them make the leap!
