Statement on Sentencing Council guidelines for death by dangerous driving
Kate Wallace, Chief Executive of Victim Support Scotland said:
“Victim Support Scotland broadly welcomes the Scottish Sentencing Council’s decision to introduce guidelines for sentencing people convicted of crimes relating to death by dangerous driving. Losing a loved one due to dangerous driving is devastating and sentencing decisions can be difficult to understand.
“However, we are aware that families often find it hard to understand why sentences vary so much between different crimes and different areas.
“This consultation has allowed the voices of victims to be heard, and I look forward to working with the Sentencing Council in the coming weeks as this guideline is submitted to the High Court for approval, and beyond to see the real impact it will have.”
