Words from our Chair James Angus Pow this Trustee Week

6 November, 2023

For me, leading the VSS board is a privilege. Seeing first-hand what our charity has achieved and the positive change it continues to deliver has been inspiring, challenging, and motivates us as Trustees to do more.

James Angus Pow - Chair

For members of Victim Support Scotland’s (VSS) Board, Trustees Week represents an opportunity to focus on the skills and experiences that each one of our ten Trustees brings to the Charity.

Being a Trustee, and especially for a Charity such as VSS operating in this complex landscape, is challenging. We expect a lot. Active participation in quarterly Board meetings per year focusing on good governance, in addition to one of two sub committees focusing on Finances and Audit (FAC), and People, Quality and Innovation (PQIC).  And for an organisation with our mission and values, it’s what victims across Scotland deserve.

In return, we reap the benefits of their professional experience, compassion as individuals, and their knowledge of the criminal justice system in Scotland.

As chair, I am ably supported by Flora Henderson as Vice Chair, and Helen Roxburgh as Treasurer. We further benefit from the skills of Amanda Coulthard, Rob Donnelly, Gill Imery, Stephen McCafferty, Paul Okroj, Josie Saunders, and James Wilson – each bringing a fresh new perspective, high levels of expertise, in addition to an impressive track record in their respective roles within their chosen profession and sector. Both Gill and Stephen are new to their roles at VSS, and we’re delighted to have them on board. Already they are making a significant and positive contribution.

For me, leading the VSS board is a privilege. Seeing first-hand what our charity has achieved and the positive change it continues to deliver has been inspiring, challenging, and motivates us as Trustees to do more.

I am proud to continue to Chair a charity that supports people affected by crime to take control of their lives, and which advocates on their behalf to make positive change to the criminal justice system.

I take this opportunity to thank our Trustees for all they offer so competently, willingly and compassionately.
